George Roșu

George Roșu’s name can be translated into almost any language, which cannot be said about his drawings.
He uses words and their context as his medium, with his art sitting at the intersection of text and drawing (quantitatively unbalanced). His subjects are as diverse as they are familiar—ranging from personal poetic crises to socio-global ones, to cliché-Disney-imaginary themes. His work appears in marketing campaigns, on tote bags, flags, or t-shirts, but also in art galleries, museums, and bookstores.

He doesn’t fully fit into any guild or artistic category.
Illustrators say he doesn’t make illustrations, only texts, even though he has illustrated books and articles.
Writers say he doesn’t write literature, even though he published a book of poems (bad ones, admittedly).
Contemporary artists say it’s not art but copywriting for campaigns, even though he has exhibited and continues to exhibit in galleries and museums.
Curators say he’s not a curator but an artist, even though he has curated exhibitions and runs five art spaces.
Theatre people say he doesn’t make theatre, even though he has written, directed, and produced theatre.
