context

Intersecţia is located in Brădet, Întorsura Buzăului, a little village in the heart of Carpathians, in southern Transylvania. It is 800m above s.l., and the climate is very hard in the winter, with snow and temperature till – 30°, but pleasant during the summer.

The village is situated along the national street DN10, between Brașov and Buzău, on the edges of hay fields, pastures and woods. It is a rural place, in the Buzău valley, the river that gives its name to the Municipality of Întorsura Buzăului (Buzău turn), and which originates about 20 km from the village. It is a place from which many migrate for better paid work, and return to rearrange their homes; where forests are a precious asset, even in the plans of speculators and interested entrepreneurs; where sheep-farming and cow breeding are still practiced at family level, even if it is in decline, and cows are less and less.

For historical and political reasons, the Romanian countryside remained quite untouched by the post-war progress, and its development stagnated even after 1989, due to the massive emigration and the political non-interest. In the last decades, with the return of capital earned abroad, and with the entry into the European Union, something is moving a little faster. Not having ridden the speed of “progress,” it can now be seen as an involuntary act of resistance, with an interesting potential, the potential of an uncultivated land, useful today to imagine other possibilities of development.

Intersecţia is an invitation to take distance from the great centers, social, economic, political ones, and to move to the margins of Europe, from where to see things under another perspective.

Moreover, being far from the dynamics of the art system, it is a place where to create a space of meaning not linked to production and exhibition, but based on research, promoting an ecological and environmental approach.
