OTAVA. A meadow is not just a meadow

Part of Intersecţia’s research focuses on the landscape of milk production, where a meadow is not just a meadow, but fodder for cows. Herbs have not only ecosystemic value but nutritional, energy and economic one.

APIA (Agenţia de Plăţi şi Intervenţie pentru Agricultură) provides subsidies to landowners to preserve the Romanian countryside landscape, through haymaking. But, in a period of social, economic and climate change, cows and sheeps are fewer and fewer, and a part of hay ends up rotting in haystacks and gets then burned.

The installation is made with these mountain herbs. Otava is the second cutting of herbs, done in August, generally softer and more nutritious than the first.
